What's new - Caseware Taxflow Winter 2025 Release (v2.277.0)

Here's a list of what's new in the Caseware Taxflow Winter 2025 release.

Expanded tax vendor support Form 8825

Casewase Taxflow now better supports Form 8825 across all tax vendors. The forms listed below have been updated as part of this enhancement:

  • 1-100 Engagement set-up

  • 1-550 Tax groups assignment

  • 1-565/1-570 S-Corporation/Partnership - Tax groups

  • 2-100 Tax adjustments

  • 8825 Rental Real Estate Income and Expenses of a Partnership or an S Corporation

For more information, see Form 8825 Rental real estate income and expenses of a Partnership or an S Corporation.

Notes:

  • Export limitations: Exporting Form 8825 balances is currently available only for GoSystem. As a result, the imported trial balance may appear out of balance, and you will need to manually input the Form 8825 amounts in your tax software. Export support for other tax vendors will be introduced in a future release.

  • Retroactive applicability: This enhancement will retroactively apply to engagements created after October 30, 2025.

    • For engagements created with tax vendors other than GoSystem, a new procedure—“Does the trial balance contain rental income/expense accounts to be reported on Form 8825?”—will appear in 1-100 Engagement set-up.

      • Ensure you complete this procedure and select Update engagement content, as some documents in the Document Manager may not appear until this step is performed. Failure to complete this procedure can impact the carry forward of the engagement.

    • Retroactive engagement visibility: For retroactive engagements requiring Form 8825, you must manually set the 8825 Rental Real Estate Income and Expenses of a Partnership or an S Corporation form to Visible in the Document Manager.

For more information, see Show or hide an item regardless of visibility settings.

Carry forward Form 8825 information

The following Form 8825 related information is now included when carrying forward an engagement:

  • Property details entered in 1-100 Engagement set-up.

  • Form 8825 tax group and property mappings configured in 1-550 Tax groups assignment.

  • Custom 8825 tax groups created in 1-565/1-570 S-Corporation/Partnership - Tax groups.

Note: Support for retaining recurring tax adjustments applied to 8825 tax groups will be included in a future release.

Form 8825 support in Tax reconciliation forms

The 2-350 and 2-400 Tax reconciliation forms have been enhanced to support Form 8825 tax groups.

Support for editing property details

A new Edit property information button has been added to 1-100 Engagement set-up, allowing you to update the property details as needed.

Known Issues

Property values temporarily disappear in 1-550 Tax groups assignment

In non–tax-only engagements, the Property column values in 1-550 Tax groups assignment may appear blank after collapsing and expanding financial groups. This is a display issue only and no data is lost.

Workaround: To restore the values, open the Property selector dialog for any row and select OK or Cancel. The property values will re-display once the dialog is closed.

Subtotal section missing Form 8825 column

The subtotal section, introduced in the previous release and displayed at the top of all tax forms and reconciliation forms, does not currently include a column for Form 8825 balances. A new Net rental income/loss column will be added in a future release.

Caseware Cloud Connector limitations on Reconciliation forms

When using Cloud Connector with the Reconciliation forms:

  • Accounts are not nested under their assigned tax groups; instead, they display as uncategorized items listed at the bottom of the form.

  • The Account Number field is not yet available.

  • The Account Name field is not currently provided, so account names are temporarily populated in the Tax group name field.
