Review Tools and Guidance (SE)

This feature is only available with products on the CaseWareCloud SE platform. Available SE products include OnPoint PCR and CaseWare ReviewCompTax.

Display guidance for a procedure

In an engagement file, you will typically record your engagement work in documents called checklists. Each checklist includes a series of tasks to guide you through the engagement work, and as you perform each task, you can enter responses or data and sign off on the task.

Each item in a checklist is called a procedure. Procedures are tasks you’ll need to complete or information you’ll need to gather. They often include fields for you to enter information or conclusions. You can display guidance for these procedures on the left panel.

To display guidance for a procedure:

Select the light bulb icon () located beside certain procedures to display guidance for them on the left panel. This guidance may present information that helps you to complete the procedure or it may describe the procedure’s outcome.

Review prepared documents with review tools

On the left pane you can access review tools that make it easier to review an engagement. Review tools are available in checklists, letters and financial statements.

Review tools apply visual markup to the document, making potential issues stand out on the page so you can complete your review more quickly.

To review a prepared document:

  1. At the top right of the document, select the Review icon ().

  2. Review tools display in the left panel.

  3. You can display different review content by selecting the appropriate checkboxes in the left pane. You can filter the review areas to highlight content types. Available items depend on your specific product and the document you are viewing.

  4. Content Type Description

    Added

    Content that was added by staff members. Ensure that it is relevant and necessary for the engagement.

    Modified

    Content that staff members have modified. Ensure that the changes are correct and that content still complies with guidelines and standards.

    Overridden visibility

    Content that has been manually hidden or forced visible by staff members. Confirm that the hidden content does not apply to the engagement. Confirm that the forced visible content does apply to the engagement.

    Optimized out

    Content that has been automatically hidden based on its visibility conditions. Confirm that the hidden content does not apply to this engagement.

    Non optimal answers

    Responses that may indicate a problem on the engagement. Confirm that the chosen response is correct and determine whether annotation or supporting documentation is required.

    Modified after sign-off

    Responses that were changed after a staff member had signed off on the query.

    Not signed off

    Steps that have not been signed off by staff members.
