Subtotal across multiple groups in a trial balance

Note:This feature is available for all primary authors and is enabled by default. It is only available for new engagements.

Authors can now select multiple financial groups to subtotal in the Advanced section of the Group Properties dialog box, within a Financial Group in the trial balance. The single-selector has been replaced by a multi-selection picklist allowing for subtotal balances across multiple groups at once rather than just one at a time.

This feature enables users to view and compare group subtotals more easily. Group selections are saved together in one step, reducing errors and improving change tracking.

Feature benefits:

  • You can:

    • Combine totals from more than one group (for example Operating Revenue + Other Revenue.

    • Simulate subtotals when you previously used formulas or tagBal-based tags.

    • Auto-generate subtotals in the trial balance structure without manual calculation.

  • Subtotals are powered by an array of group sources, not a single tag.

  • Changes are saved as a batch, reducing the chance of data conflicts.

  • Existing single-group subtotals are still supported but can be expanded into multi-group ones.
